A floating pontoon off Granite Island where visitors can hand-feed, view and swim with a school of giant southern bluefin tuna.
A unique marine experience
Oceanic Victor operates a floating pontoon moored just off Granite Island at Victor Harbor, home to a school of giant southern bluefin tuna. It is one of very few places in the world where you can get into the water with a tuna school in its natural habitat.
What's included
The experience runs for about two hours and includes:
- A short boat ride from the Granite Island Causeway to the floating pontoon
- Hand-feeding the tuna from the pontoon deck
- An optional swim or snorkel with the tuna in an enclosed area (wetsuit, mask and snorkel provided)
- Viewing from a large underwater window if you prefer to stay dry
- Commentary on tuna biology and the southern ocean fishery
Practical info
- Tours run seven days a week, with two daily departures (typically 11am and 1:30pm). Bookings essential
- Minimum age for swimming is 8, and a reasonable level of confidence in the water is required
- Warm layers are recommended year-round - the southern ocean is cold
- Tours occasionally do not run in rough weather
